SNOW & A FIVE DAY WEEKEND

January 31, 2014

So, its no surprise that we have had a fair share of winter weather this week. I live on the AL/GA line so a little bit of everything - freezing rain, sleet, and eventually a dusting of powdery snowflakes. What I didn't plan on seeing were the comments about how unprepared, ill-minded, and over-dramatic ATL was due to this winter storm madness. I saw comment after comment on Twitter, and eventually I just had to say screw it and move on.
Yes, it was just a little snow, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was black ice and a large population commuting to get home safely. This isn't the first time this has happened here. Every few years or so we are plagued with this kind of weather, and it's usually the same result every time. I don't wanna play the blame game, because really, that doesn't solve anything. Will this probably happen again? Yes. But ATL will survive and get through it, just as they always have. (Referencing Snow Jam '82, Blizzard of '93, and ice storms of every other year after).

I had some fun in the snow and I honestly enjoyed the days off. I was productive, but also took advantage of the relaxation time. I watched too many movies, ate chili, and drank way too much coffee. A couple of friends and I also ventured outside to take some "snow day" photos! Enjoy!
Excited much?!

Snow in the eyes. Feels great!

HOW I GET THROUGH

January 14, 2014

I have been through plenty of things and one of the things that really helped me get through was journaling. I thought it was important that I have a way to express everything I was feeling.

One night I decided to write a letter to myself. Basically, I was telling myself to get my shit together. Here's an excerpt from it. I hope it inspires you in some way. If not, it's still pretty, right?

WELCOME

January 1, 2014

Welcome 2014. We are so glad you are here!

My butt will thank you.

Happy New Year friends!

DECOR

December 11, 2013

Tree Top  |  Sled & Wreath | Christmas Tree | Garland
December is here, which means it's time for some Christmas decor inspiration. While perusing Pinterest I came across some unique and beautiful Christmas decor ideas. I do not have a lot of Christmas decor this year, but after Christmas I plan to hit Hobby Lobby, Target, anywhere and everywhere to stock up for next year. I am loving gold and striped bows this year. I will definitely be investing in a similar look for next year. I tend to gravitate towards the rustic look like the sled & wreath you see pictured. I also love the simplicity of a small tree adorned with a few ornaments and paper wrapped packages underneath. This year I wasn't able to put up any garland in my apartment, but I love the look. It seems to bring the outdoors in.

What are your Christmas decor favorites?

OH, CHRISTMAS TREE

December 2, 2013

I am still recovering from my long Thanksgiving break (5 days?!) and I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving as well. I must say Thanksgiving pales in comparison to Christmas, but spending time with family is always a great thing! I spent my time eating, relaxing, and catching up on my favorite shows. I even braved the TJ Maxx of a very small town for some kinda sorta Black Friday shopping. I didn't really get anything, but browsing was nice. All of the stores are decorated for Christmas, and there is just something so cozy about Christmas decor, dontcha think?

I put up my humble little tree last night and I have to say I am pretty proud of it. It leans slightly and is missing a tree skirt, but its all mine and I think it's cute. That little Chalkboard tree ornament I made in the 1st grade. Adorbs, right?

How was your Thanksgiving? Do you have your tree up yet?

WISHLIST

November 21, 2013

I don't normally create "Christmas Lists" so to speak, but this year I wanted to see how far I could stretch my Pinterest organization skills. These items were chosen for my eyes only, but I thought I might as well share. What's the point of a blog after all?

You can see the source of all images by going to my Pinterest board {w i s h l i s t}.

What is on your wishlist this year?

FRIDAY

November 15, 2013

Hey everyone. Sorry it's been so long since I have blogged. I have been busy and kind of enjoying the break and time to get my life settled. I have moved into my new apartment and things are great! I will update you more about that, but here's a little fall Friday inspiration.

Have a great weekend!

BLOG TRENDS

October 10, 2013

With blogging there has definitely been a transformation from when I first started to where I am today. When I first starting blogging, I only wrote posts. There may have been a photo included here and there, but the main drive behind the blog was my content. I am striving to keep that portion of blogging alive on this blog, but people are inspired by what they see. Visual stimulation is important within the arena of social media.

I have seen some major trends come to life in the blogging community.

Now, blogs have become more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I for one enjoy looking at beautiful photos while I read blog content. I want to see what you are saying come to life. Now more than ever, with the help of Pinterest, photos become a road map of the blogging journey. I will see hundreds of photos related to blogs and blog content. It's amazing to me how we bloggers can still come up with words to write and pictures to post. You would think by now, I would be reading and writing the same posts over and over. With blogging, every blog and blogger is unique. My story looks like no one else's story and vice versa.
I have tried really hard to get involved more with social media. I use Facebook and Pinterest more than any other social media outlet, mainly because Twitter overwhelms me too much. I think I may follow too many people. I get lost in the shuffle and can't seem to integrate myself into the conversation.

Blogging for a purpose has become so prevalent these past few years. Bloggers have been helping others in some amazing ways. I think bloggers have such an influence in our culture. With the flux of our nation's government I have seen bloggers take significant stances when it comes to debt, spending, healthcare, etc. Our world is constantly changing, but bloggers have remained informed and positive. I love reading blogs that uplift, while still remaining truthful. Faith-based blogs have immensely helped me during the last few months. It's what we do in bloggy-land. We help others. Not ever blogger is a vain, self-centered, narcissist. Some actually care about others!
Collaboration is HUGE in blogging. From brands to products, bloggers have great influence on what we buy and sell. I have seen an increase in the number of product reviews the past year or so. I like them, but not every post or every day. I tend to read the ones that interest me, and scroll onward when I see the ones that don't. I think advertising is changing as well. Prankvertising is getting a lot of attention in the media, and I think blogvertising is heading on up as well! Mom bloggers, beauty bloggers, and fashion bloggers are being saturated with brand and product collaborations. They are the items that we buy and use. This is where our world is headed. Rather than commercials -- let's talk about how you use and like the product. Genius.

I love Fall and all that it brings. If I could have it my way, it would be fall year-round. With Fall also comes some redecorating. Above are my favorites to transform a room or rooms. Comfy blankets, white pumpkins, candles, and a fall tablescape complete the looks I love!

FALL TRENDS

October 2, 2013

I am loving the fall line at J.Crew. Their prices can be quite steep, but the quality of the clothing and accessories almost makes up for the major loss in your bank account. I mean, a $500 scarf, maybe not, but a girl can dream. I think classics are always a staple in my wardrobe, and this fall is no exception. I am loving the retro glasses. The thick frames are modern, yet have a vintage vibe, which is the perfect combo! Silver penny loafers, must I say more? Stripes are always acceptable, as are scarves. Handwoven scarves from anywhere are so comfy and soft on those cold days. The items above are found or collected items that are found all over the world, but you can find some derivative of these items at your favorite store.

A FEW THINGS ABOUT ME...

FOUR FAVORITES: FALL

September 25, 2013

Here are my four favorites for fall.
photo // sweater // tunic (not original source) // Starbucks
I think that crunchy leaves are one of the more beautiful parts of fall, along with the crisp air. I am a sucker for the studded sweaters and I love the flowy comfort of a tunic. Both items can be worn with skinny jeans and boots, or leggings and boots. And Starbucks lattes? Need I say more. Make mine a grande, non-fat, pumpkin spice, please.

What do you love about fall?

Black & White is such a classic look. I think that the contrast is simple, but elegant. I am actually thinking of redoing my bedroom in black & white very soon. Of course, I love wearing black and white and I think this trend will be around for many more generations.

Do you like the black and white trend?

OBSESSED WITH GOLD

Let's talk about glitter and gold. I am seeing this trend everywhere. I find this photo to be rather inspiring. I think that polka dots have a classic feel and gold gives it a modern twist.

FOR THE OFFICE

September 10, 2013

I am not sure if it is my love for blogging or office supplies (probably both), but lately I have been obsessing over office pretties. The picture above shows all of my current loves from the place I love, Target. I think in order to be productive whether it's paying bills, blogging, or just working from home, a clean, pretty workspace is essential. I also think a candle helps to cozy up the space and sends my mind reeling.

I love office supplies! Seriously.

What are your office essentials?

FRIDAY

August 30, 2013

I am so excited that Friday is here!

I know you have to be too. It's a long weekend and I am in desperate need of it. This is totally off topic, but I have not had a sunburn/tan all summer! What is wrong with me? Maybe its all the rain. Or the fact that I work indoors 40 + hours per week. Either way I will need to try and get some color on this pastey white skin of mine. Although, its not the worst thing to have had less sun exposure this summer. Makes for less wrinkles later.

This week has been somewhat slower than previous weeks at work. That I am very thankful for. Below are the highlights of the week, which I will now call the "Weekly Menu".

ROMANTIC LIVING

August 15, 2013

Romantic Living

I love having a room with a mixture of elements. Right now I love neutrals, but also enjoy a bit of the unexpected. So there's a romantic chandelier, an industrial table, feathers, and geometric rug and curtains. This, right now, would be my dream living room. I always have fresh flowers on hand, and candles? Of course! What's your dream room?
